The Artists

Working artists.
A national network.

Open Universe represents artists working within progressive studios across the United States. Each artist contributes to a living collection — one that moves through the country, generating visibility, connection, and income. This is not a database. It is a museum with a pipeline built around the people who make the work.

Who they are

Artists the art world has systematically overlooked.

The artists in the Open Universe network work within progressive studios — nonprofit organizations across the United States that support artists with disabilities as working professionals, not as a therapeutic exercise. These studios provide space, materials, instruction, and community. What they have never had is a museum built around their artists' work.

Open Universe is that museum. Every artist in the collection is represented not as a symbol of disability, but as a maker — someone whose work earns its place in a serious institutional collection on its own terms.

What Open Universe does for artists

01
Income
Museum placement fees go directly to artists. Every rotation generates recurring income — not a one-time sale, but sustained earnings tied to the collection's movement through the world.
02
Visibility
Works placed in hospitals, offices, hotels, and civic institutions reach thousands of people daily — audiences that traditional galleries never access and that traditional artists never reach.
03
Institutional record
Every placement, every acquisition, every exhibition is documented as part of the artist's institutional record — the kind of provenance that opens doors to collectors, curators, and galleries.

The studio network

Open Universe works with progressive studios across the country — organizations that support artists with disabilities as working professionals. The network currently represents 150+ studios and 4,000–6,000 artists. Named studios will be listed as partnerships are confirmed.

How artists enter the collection

01
Open Invitational
Artists are exhibited by their progressive studio at our international art fair — the only juried fair dedicated exclusively to artists with disabilities.
02
Acquisition
Selected works are acquired into the Open Universe collection — entering the permanent institutional record and becoming eligible for museum placements nationwide.
03
The collection
Works circulate through the museum partner network, generating ongoing income, visibility, and institutional recognition for the artists who made them.

Is your studio part of the network?

We are actively building partnerships with progressive studios across the United States. If your organization supports artists with disabilities as working professionals, we want to hear from you.

Partnerships are free for studios. Open Universe handles acquisition, placement, and artist payments.
