The Model

Anchored in space.
Distributed across the country.

Open Universe exists as both a physical institution and a distributed museum network.

Rather than operating solely within a single building, the museum extends through hospitals, corporate offices, hotels, universities, libraries, and other public-facing environments that host rotating exhibitions from the collection.

These spaces are not simply venues. They function as active extensions of the institution — expanding where art is encountered, who encounters it, and how it participates in contemporary life.

01
Hub
A permanent institutional anchor in Miami — home to the collection, exhibitions, archives, and public engagement.
02
Nodes
Partner institutions across the country that host rotating exhibitions within everyday public environments.
03
Collection
A living collection in continuous circulation — generating artist income, institutional visibility, and public connection wherever it travels.
How It Works
A museum that moves through the world.

Most museums ask people to come to them. Open Universe brings the collection into the spaces where people already live, work, heal, gather, and move through daily life.

Every placement is treated as a true exhibition: curated, contextualized, documented, and connected to a living institutional collection. The Hub in Miami serves as the museum's permanent anchor. The Nodes extend that institution outward across the country.

"When a hospital in Chicago hosts an exhibition from Open Universe, it is not hosting a temporary partnership. It is hosting the museum itself."

Hub & Nodes

The Hub
Miami — the permanent home

The Hub is where the museum becomes physically rooted — where the permanent collection lives, where artists gather, and where collectors, curators, and institutions engage with the work in depth.

Establishing the Hub within Miami's cultural landscape marks the next phase of Open Universe's institutional development.

The Nodes
Nationwide — everywhere people are

Open Universe operates through a national network of institutional partners known as Nodes.

Rather than existing solely within a single building, the museum extends into hospitals, offices, hotels, universities, libraries, and civic environments that host rotating exhibitions from the collection.

Each Node functions as an active site of the institution — presenting works for a defined period, supporting artist income through placement fees, and participating in programming connected to the exhibition.

Together, the Nodes form a distributed museum infrastructure embedded within everyday public life.

Where the Museum Exists

Healthcare
Hospitals & Clinics

Waiting rooms, corridors, and patient spaces become sites for sustained cultural engagement through rotating exhibitions from the Open Universe collection — informed by co-founder David Fierman's decade of hospital art consulting in New York.

Corporate
Offices & Headquarters

Lobbies, conference rooms, and shared work environments host curated exhibitions that connect organizations directly to the artists, the collection, and the broader mission of Open Universe.

Hospitality
Hotels & Public Venues

Hotels and hospitality environments become part of the museum's public-facing network — creating unexpected encounters with contemporary art within spaces visited by thousands of people each day.

Civic
Public Institutions

Libraries, universities, government buildings, and civic environments extend the museum into everyday public life and expand access far beyond the traditional gallery audience.

What Node Partners Receive

For the Institution

  • A curated rotating exhibition selected specifically for the architecture, audience, and character of the space.
  • Open Universe oversees installation, deinstallation, curatorial planning, and programming connected to the exhibition.
  • Each participating institution is recognized as an official Open Universe Node within the museum's national network.

For the Artists

  • Placement fees paid directly to participating artists.
  • Long-term visibility within active public environments.
  • Institutional documentation of exhibitions as part of each artist's professional record.
  • Connection to Open Universe's growing network of collectors, curators, and cultural partners.

Your space becomes part of the museum.

Hosting a Node is not sponsorship. It is participation.

The Open Universe model extends the museum beyond a single building and into the spaces where people already live, work, heal, gather, and move through daily life.

Each Node functions as an active extension of the institution — connected to a living collection in continuous circulation across the country.

Open Universe collaborates with institutions across healthcare, hospitality, corporate, and civic environments.
