Work made with precision, wit, and joy.
Victor Van works in ink on paper — a medium that rewards both precision and spontaneity. His drawings are characterized by a sharp observational humor and an ability to transform everyday moments into something unforgettable. The title of this exhibition, Great Expectations, captures both the ambition of the work and the sense that something larger is always just around the corner.
Van's practice has developed within the progressive studio network into a body of work that is entirely its own — unmistakably human, unmistakably funny, and deeply attentive to the details of life that most people overlook. His work does not ask for special consideration. It earns its place on the wall.
Great Expectations is Van's first solo exhibition at Open Studio, following his participation in earlier group programming. The show presents a focused selection of new and recent drawings that demonstrate the full range of his practice.

Victor Van is a New York-based artist whose work in ink on paper combines observational humor, precise draughtsmanship, and an instinct for the telling detail. His drawings document the world around him — family, memory, celebration, everyday life — with a wit and warmth that is entirely his own.
